Padua Prediction Score for Risk of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)

Risk stratification model for VTE in hospitalized adult medical patients.

Clinical parameters

Active cancer: local or distant metastases and/or chemotherapy or radiotherapy within the previous 6 months

Required

Previous VTE, excluding superficial vein thrombosis

Required

Reduced mobility: bed rest with bathroom privileges for at least 3 days

Required

Known thrombophilia: antithrombin, protein C or protein S deficiency; factor V Leiden; prothrombin G20210A mutation; or antiphospholipid syndrome

Required

Recent trauma and/or surgery within the previous month

Required

Age 70 years or older

Required

Heart failure and/or respiratory failure

Required

Acute myocardial infarction and/or ischemic stroke

Required

Acute infection and/or rheumatologic disorder

Required

Obesity: body mass index (BMI) 30 kg/m² or greater

Ongoing hormonal treatment
