Estimated potassium deficit: Deficit (mmol) = 0.4 × body weight (kg) × (4.5 − current K+ [mmol/L]) This estimate has limited precision and may under- or overestimate total body deficit, especially with acid-base shifts or ongoing losses. Safety reminders: • Never give potassium as IV push/rapid bolus or IM injection. • Route, concentration, infusion rate, and daily limits must follow local protocol and monitoring capability. • Recheck serum potassium and ECG during replacement.
