Clinical context

This calculator estimates an intravenous remifentanil loading dose, drug delivery rate, and pump rate from the entered preparation. Match the dose to the anesthetic technique, age, co-administered agents, and clinical response. A loading dose is not appropriate in every setting and should be given slowly when used. Remifentanil can cause profound respiratory depression, apnea, rigidity, bradycardia, and hypotension. It must be administered by clinicians trained in anesthetic opioids with continuous respiratory and cardiovascular monitoring and immediate airway, ventilation, resuscitation, and antagonist capability. Do not administer by epidural or intrathecal routes. Its analgesic effect dissipates rapidly after stopping the infusion. Establish longer-acting analgesia before discontinuation when postoperative pain is expected. Independently verify the prepared concentration and pump settings.
