Nitroglycerin Infusion Calculator

Clinical context

This calculator estimates intravenous nitroglycerin delivery and pump rate from the selected weight-based dose and prepared concentration. It does not cover sublingual or transdermal treatment. Verify the final concentration, diluent, administration set, and local preparation standard independently; nitroglycerin delivery can be altered by adsorption to some tubing materials. Use continuous blood-pressure and heart-rate monitoring. Titrate to the clinical indication and response; excessive dosing can cause severe hypotension, reflex tachycardia, headache, or worsening ischemia. Correct hypovolemia when appropriate. Do not use with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors or a soluble guanylate-cyclase stimulator because profound hypotension can occur. Avoid or use specialist guidance in marked hypotension, increased intracranial pressure, severe anemia, or other conditions in which reduced preload may be harmful.
