Clinical context

Midazolam is a benzodiazepine used for anxiolysis, amnesia, procedural sedation, induction of anesthesia, and sedation of intubated patients. Dose by slow titration to effect. Opioids and other CNS depressants substantially increase the risk of respiratory depression; older, debilitated, or physiologically compromised patients require lower doses. This calculator combines several adult and pediatric routes and indications, each with its own dosing pathway. Before using an output, confirm the route, formulation, age group, maximum dose, and repeat-dose interval against current local guidance. For status epilepticus, follow a complete local algorithm that defines initial treatment, repeat dosing, infusion, and escalation. IV midazolam can cause apnea, airway obstruction, hypotension, and cardiac arrest. Continuous respiratory and cardiac monitoring, supplemental oxygen, age-appropriate ventilation and intubation equipment, reversal medication, and personnel skilled in airway management must be immediately available.
