Intravenous Sodium Oxybate Dose Calculator
Parameters
Clinical context
Intravenous sodium oxybate is authorized for anesthetic or neurotrauma sedation use only in some countries. Use it only where the indication is included in current national product information and supported by an institutional protocol. Current French product information specifies 60 mg/kg for adult anesthesia and 100 mg/kg for pediatric anesthesia. The calculator defaults to 60 mg/kg for adult anesthesia. For pediatric anesthesia under the same product information, select 100 mg/kg. Neurotrauma sedation uses a separate infusion regimen of 20–50 mg/kg/hour. Do not use the anesthetic bolus output as an hourly infusion dose. Major risks include respiratory depression, delayed recovery, bradycardia or conduction disturbance, hypokalemia, and clinically important sodium exposure. The same product information lists severe hypertension, significant conduction-related bradycardia, and uncorrected hypokalemia as contraindications. Use only with continuous cardiorespiratory monitoring and immediate airway and ventilatory support.
