Clinical context
Dopamine is a catecholamine infusion used to support hemodynamics in selected patients with shock. Correct hypovolemia, hypoxia, and acidosis before or during initiation. In septic shock, norepinephrine is preferred first-line; dopamine is generally reserved for selected situations when other agents are unavailable or a specific physiological rationale exists. This calculator uses the entered weight, dose, prepared concentration, and total volume to calculate drug delivery and pump rate. Verify the prepared concentration independently before starting the infusion. Low-dose dopamine does not protect kidney function and should not be used to prevent or treat acute kidney injury. Use continuous ECG and blood-pressure monitoring and reassess perfusion, urine output, and the infusion site. Tachyarrhythmia, excessive vasoconstriction, myocardial ischemia, and tissue injury after extravasation can occur.
